🦾 The Swedish government should appoint AI negotiators

In an opinion piece in Dagens industri, I propose that the Swedish government should appoint Jonas Birgersson and Anna Kinberg Batra as AI negotiators. Their task would be to negotiate with AI companies to provide all Swedes free access to AI services like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.

The proposal for free AI was introduced last year by the AI Commission and is known as the AI for all reform.

From Dagens industri:

The AI Commission's idea is to negotiate AI for all with AI companies. There are strong incentives for these companies to offer Swedes free access to their services. An official "stamp of approval" from the Swedish government provides credibility in negotiations with other nations and institutions. They would also reach groups of users in society who otherwise would have been late adopters of AI. The free access would last 6–12 months, and many users are likely to continue as paying customers afterward. But aren't there already free versions of almost all AI services? Yes, but the key is regular usage. Free versions are limited both in terms of usage volume and capabilities.
Negotiators are necessary for this initiative. The government should ask Jonas Birgersson and Anna Kinberg Batra to undertake this task. Internet pioneer Birgersson can navigate both new, society-wide technology and negotiations with large corporations. Anna Kinberg Batra has the assignment of analyzing AI initiatives from other countries, making her well-versed in AI issues. Additionally, she has extensive negotiation experience and understands the governmental perspective. Together, their complementary skills would make them effective negotiators and ensure all Swedes free access to AI.
