🦾 WALL-Y at Tidsskriftsdagen
The Swedish Magazine Publishers Association (Sveriges Tidskrifter) had AI as the theme for this year's Magazine Day, and they were curious about WALL-Y. My AI bot that writes news for Warp News.
I explained why WALL-Y isn't just a generic AI, but has a name, appearance, personality, and background. There are two reasons for this - one short-term and one long-term.
In the short term, it's so that these characteristics are reflected in her texts, which otherwise tend to be a bit flat. In the long term, it's because I believe she can become a valuable part of the Warp News brand, someone that readers have a relationship with. Perhaps WALL-Y will become some sort of news agent, helping them find fact-based optimistic news?
There were many good items on the agenda, but my favorite was Inas Hamdan. An award-winning journalist at Sydsvenskan who used AI to expose false reporting about Sweden in foreign media, particularly Al Jazeera.
